At PAAV Gitombo, we provide quality education rooted in Christian values,
empowering children to grow spiritually and academically.
Every Child Matters from academics to sports, music, and agriculture,
our learners enjoy a holistic school experience.
Your support helps us equip learners with skills, hope, and
opportunities for a brighter future as we transform Gitombo.
At PAAV Gitombo Community School, education goes beyond classrooms—it’s a ministry of hope. Founded in 2014 with just three learners, the school has now grown to over 220 children, offering them the chance to pursue their dreams while grounded in Christian values. Our approach is holistic: we provide academic excellence, nurture spiritual growth, and encourage learners to explore their talents through music, sports, debate, and agriculture. By ensuring each child gets nutritious meals and textbooks, we remove barriers that often hinder education in rural communities.
PAAV Gitombo Community School was birthed from the vision of Wanjiru Mukunga, a native of Gitombo who dreamed of transforming her childhood village through education. In 2003, she first imagined a project that could adopt and uplift the entire community. This dream became reality in 2014 when the school opened its doors to three young learners in a simple mabati classroom.
Today, that vision has grown into a thriving school serving hundreds of children. Wanjiru’s passion remains anchored in faith and the belief that true transformation can only come through Christ. Through PAAV, she continues to champion the mission of “Adopt, Empower, and Transform”—breaking the cycle of poverty by giving children both knowledge and hope.

The school provides spiritual guidance for the children through the Sunday School and chapel program. Every Sunday, the teachers take turns to teach a chapter in the bible. The lessons are engaging and fun for the students. About 100 students attend Sunday school every week. The students who attend have been noted to have improved confidence and knowledge of the bible.
The program aims to ensure that children from Gitombo who do well academically and whose families cannot afford to take them to school have access to secondary and higher education. PAAV paid 100% for both the tuition and boarding fees for each child attending either primary or high school. Since then, about 25 children have benefited from this program. 3 have graduated; 8 are in college and will finish in 2025, 6 are in vocational schools and should all finish by 2026, 6 are in high school, and 2 are in junior school.
The pillars program is an empowerment initiative aimed at aiding parents and staff members at PAAV-Gitombo to start and grow small businesses. The pillars program takes a two-pronged approach:
Upon completion of the training, the pillar’s group members are issued a small loan to aid in starting a small business.
When hiring any staff member, whether as a teacher or in other roles, they may not necessarily know the Bible, even if they are a Christian. The staff have a weekly Bible study session on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 pm to learn more about the Bible while continuing their work teaching Sunday school.
